SMART HOME: GREEN + WIRED OPENS AT CHICAGO MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY

Life|ware, Microsoft eHome and NuVo Technologies All Contribute to This Exhibit Home.

Chicago, IL - May 15, 2008 - The Chicago Museum of Science and Industry exhibit Smart Home: Green + Wired, Powered by ComEd and Warmed by People's Gas, which opened May 8, allows guests to tour a real, functioning three-story, modular and sustainable "green" home-built right in the Museum's backyard-that also highlights unique eco-friendly technologies for the 21st century. Life|ware, Microsoft® eHome and NuVo Technologies are all taking part in this exhibit home, providing guests a glimpse into a smarter, greener way of living.

This year's exhibit features Life|ware software and hardware to show guests how they can seamlessly merge control of their home with all of their digital entertainment. By simply integrating Life|ware into Microsoft® Windows® Media Center, Smart Home: Green + Wired creates the ultimate whole home experience by providing all-in-one entertainment including access to music, photos, TV, movies and the latest in online media plus fingertip control of heat, window coverings, lighting, security sensors and cameras throughout the home.  Guests will also learn how Life|ware can track electricity and water consumption on a real-time basis, provide remote monitoring, and extend content and control throughout the home using Extenders for Windows Media Center.

Also featured in the Smart Home: Green + Wired exhibit is NuVo Technologies' Essentia E6G. The first and only whole-home audio system to be ENERGY STAR certified, the NuVo Essentia E6G distributes homeowners' favorite music throughout the home without consuming a lot of energy. Despite distributing audio to six zones in the Smart Home, the E6G will only consume 0.80 watts in standby mode. On average, it consumes 68.4 kilowatt-hours of power per year to operate, which is an equivalent of 1/3 the energy consumption of most competing systems. Together, the technologies will demonstrate how a home can inspire lifestyle choices and be equipped to save resources.

The Smart Home-designed by Michelle Kaufmann Designs and built by All American Homes-is open from May 8, 2008 through Jan. 4, 2009.  Celebrating exciting new directions in sustainable living and spectacular, environmentally-friendly technology, Smart Home: Green + Wired will offer guests guided tours of the 2,500-square-foot home and grounds, located in a park on the east side of the Museum. Within the home, guests will be able to view the latest innovations in reusable resources; smart energy consumption; eco-friendly landscaping; and clean, healthy-living environments in a contemporary setting.

Integrator Rick Simpson, of 3G Applications in Chicago, donated his time and resources to help the Smart Home come to fruition. Rick, a certified Digital Home Technology Integrator, worked closely with the Museum of Science and Industry, Wired Magazine, and contributing partners to create a fully connected home that displayed how the latest technology can help homeowners live a greener, more energy efficient lifestyle. Rick was able to create a seamless balance between the technologies in the home to give exhibitors a true taste of living the digital lifestyle while keeping the environment in the forefront. 3G Applications specializes in developing and integrating solutions for business and home technology solutions.

Smart Home: Green + Wired is a must-see exhibit for anyone who wants their home, and life, to be smarter, more efficient and more in tune with the environment than it is today.
Smart Home: Green + Wired, powered by ComEd and warmed by Peoples Gas, is also sponsored by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.; Dominick's; and the Motorola Foundation as part of the Museum's 75th Anniversary.
