Five Star Pet Accommodations
Background:
Ray Schneider believes in doing things
right the first time. So, when planning
and building Red Dog Pet Resort and Spa,
providing perhaps the most luxurious and
innovative pet accommodations in the
nation, that philosophy included NuVo.
Perched in one of Cincinnati’s surrounding residential communities, Red Dog is truly a one-of-a-kind operation, prepared to pamper all manner of creatures with exclusive five-star treatment. By enlisting the technological expertise of installer Ken Becker (owner of Shootingstar Electronics), whose 13 years of experience in the custom installation industry would translate Ray’s vision into reality, a truly extraordinary atmosphere was created. Flat panel televisions foster a sense of home in the dorms and daycares for canines, felines, and other furry or feathered friends. Cameras allow for the owners to check in via website, no matter where they may be. And several of NuVo’s finest components supply high quality distributed audio throughout the entire complex. An elaborate design process proved to be the most difficult and involved part of the installation. The truly unique atmosphere and nature of the project, though impressive and intriguing for Ken, present its share of challenges. Ray’s intentions and Red Dog’s needs were discussed carefully, the wiring and other features drawn out in detail—before wire ever left the box. And after two full weeks worth of non-stop labor, the results staggered the imagination.
Project Details:
Red Dog’s expansive facility - with 44
individually themed suites, 3 dormitories
(that can house 150+ dogs), 37 cat condos,
and more - required a little creativity and a
lot of Ken’s know-how. An expanded NuVo
Grand Concerto system was selected for
the project, with zones controlled easily
by the sleek, OLED displays and capacitive
touch interfaces of 8 Control Pads. 68
pairs of NuVo’s AccentPLUS1 speakers,
both in-ceiling and in-wall, were set up to
deliver crisp audio to every corner of the
building...all the way from the plush lobby
to the comforts of the massage parlor, on
to the fun and therapeutic setting of the
exercise pool.

The job’s scope also necessitated ingenuity and flexibility as Ken opted to put a single speaker channel to each zone, maneuvering the number of P2100 amplifiers used down to a more manageable 18, each serving 8 suites and connecting to 4 pairs of speakers.
Utilizing NuVo’s AM/FM/XM dual tuner
and NuVo Dock for iPod, a hefty amount
of variety is at Ray’s disposal from the
system’s six contributing sources. Also,
Ken installed an NV-LSA40, a local source
amplifier to allow any local audio source to
be amplified through the main conference
center’s speakers, accommodating any
staff or future visitors’ sound needs.
The necessary cables and wiring for the project were run during the final stages of construction, at the same time as the electric, under Ken’s tutelage. Ken then returned to put the finishing pieces up personally, ensuring that the entire system was put together properly and operating as planned.
Since the completion of the project, and the opening of Red Dog to the four-legged public, Ray has been very pleased with his audio decisions. He has noticed the music coursing through the Concerto system having a calming effect on the dogs, mellowing them as it would any human. Many others have noticed, with great surprise, the overall quiet and Ray explains that this too is a result of the constant music. The soothing melodies create a sound buffer, keeping one bark from turning to many despite the canine instinct to answer and be heard-resulting in a near-silence that is certainly golden.
And Ray's pleased reaction has continued to stimulate his creative flow. Viewing the endeavor even still as a work in progress, his choice of NuVo has left him with plenty of future possibilities at this and other future facilities.

Summary:
To the great number of pet owners out there, Fluffy and Spot are beloved
parts of the family. This is true for Ray too. That's why Red Dog offers a
full 24-hours of staffed care, promising the finest and most attentive
service to its guests. That is why he customized everything from grooming to
lodging, gearing it all to be the ultimate experience possible for both pet
and owner alike. And that is why he committed the building to the
sophisticated technology that helps transform a kennel to a spa.
The impeccable style and impressively efficient functionality of Red Dog come together to a soothing and clearly distributed soundtrack. And for a mind like Ray Schneider's, and the skill of an installer like Ken Becker, this is only the start of something wonderful.
