Crafting a Warm and Welcoming Setting at the Indian Hill Winter Club
Background:
Nestled in the soft hills just outside of Cincinnati at 10005 Fletcher Road, the Indian Hill Winter Lodge Club is the perfect Midwest recreational getaway. Don’t be fooled by its rustic look and feel, this 50,000 square foot building is outfitted with the latest hi-tech gadgets and systems, masterfully integrated for seamless, flawless operation.
The elaborate job, requiring a variety of talents and a number of distinct skills to entwine the different technologies into one harmonized, easy to manage system was taken on by a team of local installers, William Caston (Caston Enterprises, OH) and Ken Becker (Shootingstar Electronics, OH). The end result proves that even the small shops can adapt and take on the most elaborate jobs without maintaining several specialists on the payroll.
Project Details:
The two separate companies, one specializing in sales, design, engineering, and programming, Caston Enterprises, and the other a seasoned wiring installation and integration company, Shootingstar, collaborated on the job, combining skills and expertise to meet the needs of this unconventional installation.
The job required incorporating the distributed audio with a PA system and sound board, in addition to setup for 3 standalone commercial computer networks, video, security monitoring with DVR for both on and off site viewing, and a Hybrid Phone System.
Both installers agreed on NuVo’s Grand Concerto as the driving force behind the audio. With its robust power and reliability the installers were able to integrate 12 zones of distributed audio with a PA, enabling zone interrupt and PA patch-through for local zone or building announcements and control features allowing individual zone control, master mode, and control locks to manage use of the system. And perhaps the most compelling reason for selecting NuVo was, as Ken stated, “It works right all the time.”
From there, it was all bells and whistles, utilizing the simple design, flexibility and integration capabilities of the Concerto. Now all control including audio, video, and the big screen, is maintained from the Concerto Display pad in each zone being routed through the Concerto. Ideal for settings where remotes can be misplaced or at times limitations are desired on control.
Feeding the system for a variety of listening choices are dual 400 disk DVD and CD changers, Sirius Satellite Radio, NuVo’s T2 Dual AM/FM Tuner, and several MP3 docks located throughout the building allowing patrons to play their personal library, right through the system utilizing the AccentPLUS in-wall and in-ceiling speakers.
Summary:
The end result is “sophisticated and its ease of use is phenomenal. Over 400 people come through a day and in two seconds I can train somebody new to use the system. It’s that easy,” voiced Ted Nolan, General Manager of the Winter Club.
Warm and charming, this picturesque atmosphere was uncompromised by the discreet, yet powerful technical structure existing within. The integration was seamless and custom designed to meet and exceed the needs of this commercial setting. Owner, Mike Collette was more than pleased stating, “I couldn’t be happier; the system is flawless and everyone loves the sound.”
For Caston Enterprises and Shootingstar the design, integration, and quality of this installation is a job well done, achieved due in large part to their dual effort. Will and Ken run successful individual operations, but continue to partner on bigger jobs requiring specific skills to get the job done. The collaboration technique keeps them from turning away larger installations for lack of resources and insures top quality integrations in every aspect.
